StrikeTV Primer

http://strike.tv/ is the first major effort by the Hollywood creative community to create web series’ outside the studio system. All the major unions including the WGA, SAG and DGA have agreed to participate in the project, proceeds to go to the Actors Fund. An actor might do a web series on StrikeTV for the same reasons they might do an independent Sundance type film. In addition they might be pro-union or want to establish a base online.

Two of the larger PR firms in the business to market us to the mainstream media, as well as on the net, across the blogosphere and directly to the Hollywood community. That seems to have started paying off; they got articles in both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter.

SAG board members like JoBeth Williams, actors Timothy Dalton, Brandon Routh and Bob Newhart are among some of the actors involved in shows. The writers creating these shows represent such well-known movies and TV shows as Tomb Raider and Die Hard, The Daily Show, The Office, Law & Order, the Child's Play films, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Prairie Home Companion, Lonelygirl15, 30 Days of Night, Ghost Whisperer, 8 Simple Rules, General Hospital, Star Trek: Next Generation, King of Queens and the Bob Newhart Show, among many others.

A premiere event that essentially will serve as upfronts is being planned. This will surely be a great networking opportunity, as these shows will surely have the attention of the industry as well as all the newly created Digital Studios and Venture Capitalists.

Right now the site is in beta: http://beta.strike.tv
